of agricultural wasteland, along with increasing employment
opportunities. The feedstock used for the production of biodiesel is
also used as food, and this has resulted in conflict with the food
sector, leading to an industry-wide debate of Food vs Fuel. Diversion
of feedstock toward production of fuel has led to a shortage and
increase in prices of food products. This led to the development of
second- and third-generation biodiesels, which use non-food crops as
feedstock.
